Create Your Own Colorwork Pieces: How to Doodle

Create Your Own Colorwork Pieces: How to Doodle

If you love whimsical colorwork and haven’t met Jamie Lomax’s doodles yet, you’re going to love them! Doodle Card Decks are themed modular colorwork stitch dictionaries that you can mix and match to create your own designs.

Jamie Lomax goes by Pacific Knit Co. She loves colorwork knitting and how it feels like "doodling with yarn", creating a yarnie illustration line by line as you knit the pattern. After designing the first Doodle pattern in 2020, she's now expanded the concept into over 35 themes and 11 base pattern shapes, with more patterns coming all the time!

How to Doodle and Create Your Custom Knit Piece:

Step 1: Choose Your Base Doodle Pattern

You can use these colorwork charts to add to any project of your choosing. But if you need  a little more support, choose one of the Base Doodle Patterns!  Whether you want to make a cowl, scarf, hat, mittens, or socks, there's a base pattern you can use, with careful instructions on how to add your doodles of choice to it.

Step 2: Choose Your Doodle Deck (or Decks - you can mix and match!)

You can add these adorable charts to any project of your choosing, or grab one of Jamie’s base doodle patterns, which include cowls, hats, mittens, and socks. Then pick your doodle deck to embellish with! Each Core Deck includes 51 colorwork charts, Expansion Decks have 24 charts, and the Destination Decks have 13 charts. You can also browse all our Pacific Knit Co. goodies in one place!

There’s a Doodle Deck for everyone, from cat lovers to dog lovers, to bakers, gardners, romantics, fantasy lovers, witchy folks, mystery and fairy tale lovers, and so much more!

Step 3: Choose Your Yarn

Your Base Doodle Pattern will tell you what weight of yarn you need:

Step 4: Put it all together and start knitting!

Have fun creating your own unique accessories by mixing and matching your favorite doodle charts!
